A few recent changes to OverDrive’s Libby app will be affecting the way the holds process works.
What’s happening?
Titles you’ve placed holds for will no longer be automatically checked out to you when they become available. Now you’ll now have a few choices.
You can:
- Borrow it and start reading! You’ll have a 3-day pickup period to open the Libby app and check out your title.
- If you’re not ready to start reading, you can choose “deliver later” and select a set time period when you’d like the book delivered to you. Once that time period is over, you’ll be next on the list.
What if I forget to pick up my hold?
If you forget to borrow your available title during the pickup window, your hold will automatically be set to “deliver later” as a one-time courtesy for 7 days. After 7 days, your hold will be active again and you’ll receive another notification when the next copy is ready to borrow.
How will I know when my book has become available?
Don’t worry! You’ll receive a notification from the Libby app.
Why did this change?
This change was made to give you more control over what you read and when you read it, so you can get around to checking every book off your must-read list.
Does this only impact the Libby app?
This change is being rolled out for all OverDrive ebooks & audiobooks whether borrowed in Libby, the OverDrive app, or from our website/catalog.
Make sure your email address is correct in your Libby or OverDrive account, and keep an eye out for your notification emails.
If you have any questions about this change you may contact the Adult Services department by email at adult.reference@baldwinlib.org, or by phone at 248-554-4651.
Happy reading!
I can’t get my library number to work so I can get my hold book to read.
Hi Margaret, we apologize for the issue with Overdrive. Currently their authentication server is down. They are working to resolve it as soon as possible. Please check back in a couple of hours.
My book pages won’t turn
Hi Marian, I’m so sorry you’re having trouble turning your pages. I’ve sent you a direct email so we can troubleshoot the issue together. -Maria
I’m trying to get into peninsula public library and after putting library card library changes to baldwin and i can’t sign in
Hi Giovanna-
With your BPL card you may only access Baldwin’s digital collection, which is maintained with the Metro Net Library Consortium here in Southeastern Michigan. eBook licensing generally requires libraries to restrict lending to their cardholders, so most libraries in the United States have this policy. If you have a card from Peninsula Public Library (or any other library) and they also use the OverDrive platform, you can add a second card to the Libby app by following these instructions: https://help.libbyapp.com/en-us/6009.htm If you do not have a card from Peninsula Public Library you will not be able to use their collection.
If you are a BPL cardholder and there is a title you want that we do not own, please submit a purchase suggestion on our website here and we will try to purchase it: https://www.baldwinlib.org/purchase-suggestion/
You may also contact us directly via email at adult.reference@baldwinlib.org
I hope this was helpful.
-Maria
