Mission Statement
The Baldwin Public Library in Birmingham, Michigan enriches lives by providing opportunities and resources for everyone to learn, connect, and discover.
Library Board
The Baldwin Library Board is dedicated to providing an enriching library experience to the community. Our Board is made up of six elected members who:
- Adopt bylaws and rules for the board’s governance
- Maintain control over the building and grounds of the library
- Control the expenditure of all funds credited to the library fund
- Can appoint, supervise, evaluate, discipline or remove a director
- Approve an annual library budget
- Adopt policies, rules and regulations regarding use of the library
Strategic Plan
On April 18, 2022, the Library Board approved the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan based on feedback from staff and the public. This new plan will help to guide the library in the future and creates long term goals to strengthen Baldwin’s standing in the community.

Our Board is the keeper of all library policies; we cannot operate effectively without formally adopted, written policies. These policies are adopted by resolution of the Library Board in a meeting conducted according to the Open Meetings Act.
Other roles of our Library Board:
- Acting as the public trustee of the library
- Overseeing funding
- Resolving differences (e.g., personnel disputes and citizen complaints)
The Michigan Constitution grants public library boards the authority and responsibility to adopt regulations, or policies, for the public’s use of libraries. If you have questions concerning our policies, please contact the Baldwin Library Director at 248-554-4681. The Library Board meets in the Library on the third Monday of each month. All members of the public are encouraged to attend.
